In between sailing with Royal Caribbean International for work and travels to Mexico, I got to exploring Miami (with a little taste of Art Basel!). One thing’s for sure, there’s a certain vibe people living here have going on and it’s just so smooth. One of those things you just have to go to and experience yourself to feel… And how is it that everyone is just so damn good looking? Ha. Here’s few things on film that I did and loved during my recent travels to Miami.
Top Things To Do in Miami
00:12 Starting and ending your days here isn’t a bad idea
I swear this was the finest, softest sand I’ve ever treaded on. One of my favourites was when we rode our bikes to pick up a few goodies from Wholefoods and continued onto the beach to have a picnic lunch in the sun.
00:17 Days and nights here filled my latin loving soul
Cuban salsa, Cuban cuisine, cortadita’s and the best mojitos I’ve ever had – sugarcane sticks are the trick!
00:24 This was our first stop, suitcase still in tow
Make sure to check out Wynwood Walls, the Art Deco hotels and motels on Ocean Drive, and Miami Design District for an art fix. For nightlife, the Wynwood neighbourhood is where you need to be.
00:26 Sometimes better than walking
Bikes make it easier to cater to the wandering eye. Get out, stop when you want to stop, explore, talk to people.
00:31 They are free classes!
But make sure to wear lots and lots of sunscreen.
Wondering where to stay in Miami?
Check in: Freehand Miami
It’s a design-led boutique hostel. Which means cool homely like furniture and styling but with a nightly rate that won’t hurt your wallet. It’s clean, close to the beach and has a restaurant and bar where locals flock to on the weekends. Great for meeting others as a solo traveller and there are even design markets that popped up when I was staying there. Plus plenty of photoshoots with local creatives. Check it out and book here.
Travel Tip: Order the USD$1.99 uber pool to get across to the other strip of the beach on a night out or if you don’t feel like walking during the day.
