WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE? HERE’S MY TOP 5.

There’s this funny thing about cameras. You know that scenario… A: “Your camera takes nice pictures” B: “Yeah, and Beethoven’s piano played nice music.” Well, yeah I truly believe it’s not just about the camera, but the person behind the lens. In saying this though I do have a range of cameras I particularly love and because I have had a few questions about what camera I use I thought I’d take you through my top 5…

1. Canon s100
This is my main man! I carry this guy pretty much everywhere and I love the quality of photographs I can capture with its 12megapixels. It’s a compact pocket camera at 198g and fits in all of my bags, even my Céline and COMME. The main reason why I got this was because I wanted a pocket camera that still had manual control and this fit the description! You can play around with the aperture, white balance, shutter speed etc. (which I actually prefer in a compact digital camera.) It also has full HD video so filming is also another option!

2. Canon 5D Mark II
I bought this SLR about 2 years ago. It was around the time when I started to really think about what I wanted to do in life and ended up going down the road of Photography since I knew I was a really visual person. So I went all out, did a course, assisted for a while and then dropped some big ones on this camera – I convinced myself that I needed to make an investment. I spent just about a year doing freelance photography with this and there’s no doubt it produces amazing quality but I don’t agree on having to buy an expensive camera to take great photos. The majority of photos and videos you see on here is produced with my s100 (mainly because most of the time I can’t be bothered carrying a massive camera, it gets exhausting!) and I receive many compliments on them. I think Darren says it well, “You can spend all your money in professional equipment, but if you don’t have the skill to use it, it’s pretty much worthless. Likewise, even if your equipment isn’t top notch, you can still accomplish wonderful things, as long as you know what it is capable of.”

So, these two are my main digital cameras, I’ll take you through my last 3 on film next!

You do take wonderful pictures, A! x

  2. I just got myself the canon mark II as well, after spending years doing only film photos. I didnt want to spend the money on a camera till I was sure i knew which one i wanted. I think its the best for that price range. But completely agree that its more important to understand your camera than spend the money. Some of my favourite photos ive taken with a $40 film slr.
